Fused Glas Frit Bowl

This fused glass bowl was made out of glass frit, which are small pieces of glass. I tack fused the pieces together and then slumped it into a bowl mold.

Fused Glass Plate with Black Iridized Borders

This fused glass plate has black prismatic iridized borders with a clear piece in between. I added dichroic noodles to accent the edges of the borders and put another one in the clear piece. This fused glass plate is 10″ square. It is both functional and decorative. When the light hits the front of this fused glass plate, the iridized glass and the dichroic noodles really sparkle! When I had this on display at my booth, people’s eyes would be attracted to this fused glass plate. It is fun to watch people looking at this glass plate.

Sky Blue Fused Glass Coasters

To make these fused glass coasters, I used Sky Blue translucent glass and a clear iridescent crackle glass. I cut each glass into a 4″ square piece, placed them in the kiln with the clear irid crackle glass face down and the sky blue glass on top, and fused them. The crackle design gives a really unique appearance to these fused glass coasters.

I add rubber bumpers to the bottom of the fused glass coaster to protect the surface they are place on and to prevent them from slipping around.

Blue Basket Weave Fused Glass Vase

Basket Weave Fused Glass Vases are special to me, because I used to weave real baskets made out of reed. So, when I started making fused glass, I soon started making fused glass basket weave vases and plates. Granted, my basket weave glass vases and plates are not a true basket weave (gosh, should I really be telling you this ). They look like it, but when you look closer, you can see that some of the glass strips are on top of all the others and some are on the bottom of all the others. To do this, I lay out one-fourth of the strips in one direction and one-fourth of the strips in the other direction and then I repeat, so I have four layers of strips. This gives the illusion of the basket weave design.

I do have a mold where I can slump strips of glass into an “s” shape and then put straight strips of glass through the gaps, thus creating a truer basket weave design. I will tell you more about it when I finish one of those plates!

For this fused glass vase, I used Spectrum 96 Cascadia OpalArt glass.

Gold Fused Glass Earrings

These small fused glass earrings are really cute! The gold dots are dichroic glass, which makes these glass earrings sparkle in the light. The dichroic glass also changes color as the earrings are moved around and also tend to change color depending on what colors are behind or next to it.

These fused glass earrings are post earrings. I fused the gold dichroic layer of glass to a black layer of glass. The finished fused glass earrings were glued with a very strong glue to surgical steel posts, which do not contain any base metals. Anybody would love wearing these cute glass earrings!

Peppermint Fused Glass Bowl

This fused glass bowl has such beautiful pink and white swirls. This glass bowl was draped over a mold, rather than slumped into a mold. After cutting a round piece of this peppermint candy baroque glass, it was placed on top of the 6-lobed mold. I put two layers of thin fire shelf paper in between the mold and the glass, so the glass would come off the mold easily. The kiln was programmed and, as the glass softened, it draped or fell over the mold, taking the shape of the mold. I really like this mold, because it creates a uniquely-shaped fused glass bowl.

Blue Butterfly Fused Glass Spoon Rest

This fused glass spoon rest is one of my favorites! I love butterflies and I love flowers! So, I combined the two on this glass spoon rest. The butterfly is the hardest thing to make. I use a template to cut out two pieces for the blue wings. Then, I grind each one so they match and actually look like butterfly wings. I add small white pieces of glass to add interest to the butterfly.

I use glass stringers for the stems and small pieces of glass for the small flower petals. When everything is in place, I fuse two layers of clear glass with the butterfly and flowers. To finish off the fused glass spoon rest, I slump the glass into a spoon rest mold to give it the shape of a spoon rest.

This spoon rest sold soon after I finished it. I guess I will need to make another one, but I never make the same one twice, so the butterfly will have to be a different color, etc.

Red Fused Glass Plate

This fused glass plate was a custom order. A lady contacted me and told me her parents were going to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. She saw a similar glass plate on my website (www.mastersglassart.com) as the glass plate pictured above. She wondered if she could get a similar fused glass plate with the predominant glass piece bigger and red. The reason she wanted more red was because a 40th wedding anniversary was a ruby anniversary, which I learned later. The result was this fused glass plate. I think the red is a gorgeous color and makes a bold statement, yet the other colors tone it down a bit. I also added some dichroic noodles outlining the red and another one passing over the three colors on the right side. The dichroic noodles really finishes the glass plate off beautifully.

The lady and her parents loved the plate!!

Burgandy Fused Glass Vase

This fused glass vase is really gorgeous! The burgundy swirls throughout the glass makes such a unique design. Imagine a candle burning inside this glass vase and the colors and designs the flame gives off!

This glass vase has sold and I don’t have any more glass like this. However, I just haven’t ordered any of it, yet.

Purple Fused Glass Pendant

This fused glass pendant has so many different colors, which is why I really like it. The dichroic glass on top of the black glass has a ripple texture and the colors are green, blue, and magenta, which is why it has so many colors. There are even more colors in this glass pendant. I can also see some yellow. That is the beauty of dichroic glass – so many colors come through to the eye.

Since the top layer is a ripple texture, it is harder to make pendants. Invariably, after the first fusing, it needs to be ground around the edges to make it smooth, then fired again to make the edges shiny again. Sometimes I need to do this process a second time. However, when I add the ripple glass on top of the black glass, there is no need to grind the fused glass pendant. It is finished after one firing. I still make glass pendants using the ripple textured dichroic with clear glass over it. However, I realize I will need to grind it once or twice, but that is fine, because I like variety in my fused glass pendants.
