Very Cool New Glass Vase

Red Lace decorating a Vanilla Glass Vase

I really love this gorgeous new vase!!  It came out much better than I expected.  The addition of small pieces of the red glass lace in the large area of vanilla glass really enhances the look.

I used a drop ring mold — the same one that I used in the Tutorial that I posted a few days back (here is the link to Part 1 of the Tutorial:  and the link to Parts 2 & 3:   However, this time I added another layer of clear glass.  I fused two layers of clear glass with one layer of vanilla glass (96 Spectrum) and an oval piece of red glass lace — the one that I posted a few days ago — here is the link:

I fused an extra layer of glass, because I wanted to make this vase 6″ tall.  With every 2″ rise in the height of the drop ring mold, another layer of glass needs to be added to make a structurally strong vase.

I must thank my dear husband for helping me with this vase.  Since I started the fusing so late in the day, he needed to spend an hour watching the kiln before he went to bed while the kiln needed to soak.  He also had to get up in the middle of the night a couple of times to check the kiln and adjust the manual controls.  He was not happy about it, but he did it for me anyway.  Thanks, hun!!

Love that vase! May I ask you where you buy your molds and drop out rings?

Thanks for the compliment on the vase!!

I bought that drop ring mold from They make high quality molds.

I sold that vase at my last Craft Fair in Ashland. A lady loved all my glass and couldn’t decide what to get, so she asked me what my favorite glass piece was and I told her it was this particular vase. She bought it and was very happy!! I was a little sad, because it was my favorite piece and I had just made it. I need to make more drop ring vases 🙂
