Fused Glas Frit Bowl

Fused Glass Frit Bowl

This fused glass bowl was made out of glass frit, which are small pieces of glass.  I tack fused the pieces together and then slumped it into a bowl mold.

Peppermint Fused Glass Bowl

Peppermint Fused Glass Bowl

This fused glass bowl has such beautiful pink and white swirls.  This glass bowl was draped over a mold, rather than slumped into a mold.  After cutting a round piece of this peppermint candy baroque glass, it was placed on top of the 6-lobed mold.  I put two layers of thin fire shelf paper in between the mold and the glass, so the glass would come off the mold easily.  The kiln was programmed and, as the glass softened, it draped or fell over the mold, taking the shape of the mold.  I really like this mold, because it creates a uniquely-shaped fused glass bowl.

Dichroic Fused Glass Plate

Dichroic Fused Glass Plate

This dichroic fused glass plate seemed to glow when we had it displayed at our craft booth.  This glass plate would catch the eye of a lot of people from several booths away.  We would see them walk directly to our booth to get a closer view of the dichroic glass.  They had many comments about it, such as “wow, this is sooo beautiful” or “I can’t believe all the different shining colors”!!

Dave cut the dichroic glass into the different shapes.  Then, he painstakingly washed each piece and glued them into position.  He did an amazing job!  A gallery bought this fused glass plate a couple of months ago and I saw it there yesterday.  Hard to believe someone hasn’t snatched it up, yet!

Blue Fused Glass Bowl

This fused glass bowl is made out of glass frit, which is small pieces of glass crushed up.  I started out with a circle template and tack fused the sky blue frit.  To get the bowl shape, I added small pieces of fiber blanket on the edges to turn them up.

I had fun making this interesting fused glass bowl.  However, it can’t be used for serving soup 🙂  but wrapped candy would work just fine!

I just sold it at my last Art Festival!

What’s This? A Holey Glass Bowl?

Blue Fused Glass Bowl

What’s this?  Why would I make a holey glass bowl?  You can’t use it for soup or cereal.  What good is it?

I poured glass frit into a round stencil and tack fused it together.  I intentionally left areas that would leave holes.  I thought it would make an interesting glass bowl.

It can be functional by putting any kinds of trinkets in it or wrapped candy.  It can also look interesting sitting on a shelf.

Imagine a light shining on it.  You will see the blue and the holes shining on the shelf.  If you look closely, you can see that effect in the picture.

Fused Glass Bowl – Shape is 6-Lobed

This fused glass bowl has a unique shape.  I have a mold that I use to drape the glass over it in the kiln.

The glass is a new kind of 96 Spectrum called Opal Art Red.  It is a bit translucent and the colors in it are gorgeous.

Red Fused Glass Bowl

This red fused glass bowl was made with coarse cherry red frit (crushed glass).  The second picture is looking down into the bowl.  You will notice small holes and, well,  this was intentional.  This fused glass bowl will not make a great soup bowl :), but it is very unique, otherwise.  It will make a great conversation piece as a centerpiece on a table or displayed on a shelf.

The diameter of this fused glass bowl is 9 inches.  I spread the coarse cherry frit on a kiln shelf and tack fused it, so the glass frit looks like I just poured it onto the kiln shelf.  After I tack fused it, I slumped it to get the bowl shape.  This fused glass bowl is fragile, so care must be taken with it.

I want to make larger fused glass bowls like this one.  First, I need to find a great bowl mold.

Blue and White Fused Glass Bowl

Blue Fused Glass Bowl

This fused glass bowl was made with blue, white and clear glass and is translucent.  The pattern shows on the back side of the glass, so there isn’t a front or back side.  Some glass has the pretty design on the front and the back side is plain.

This fused glass bowl will look great as a centerpiece on a table or a shelf.  Since the glass is translucent, a lighted votive candle will give off very interesting light.

The glass I used for this fused glass bowl is 96 Spectrum Vienna Spirit.  I cut a 10″ circle and draped it over a six-lobed mold.

Green Fused Glass Plate with Dice

Green Glass Plate with White and Red Squares

Last year I made a drop out ring glass bowl using the same colors of glass and the same white and red square design as this fused  glass plate.  However, for the fused glass bowl, I put three red dots in each white square to make a holly design for Christmas.  When people commented on the fused glass bowl, they always said the squares reminded them of dice.

So, I decided to make this fused glass plate with different amounts of red dots to make it look like dice.  What do you think?  Does it remind you of dice?

Red Fused Glass Bowl

Red Glass Bowl

This fused glass bowl is a custom order I made for a good friend from the UK.  She saw another fused glass bowl where I used the same mold and she fell in love with it right away.

The glass is a new line of glass from Spectrum 96 called Crystal Art and the color of this one is red.  This particular glass is slightly transparent.

This fused glass bowl is going to be the centerpiece of my friend’s dining room table.  The color matches some of her other things in her dining room.  I just sent her a picture of it and I hope she likes it.
