Stephen Knapp’s Glass Light Paintings

Glass Art Lightpainting

These pictures are from Stephen Knapp’s website: www.stephenknapp.com :

“Stephen Knapp’s lightpaintings expand the concept of light sculpture and light art and continue the traditions of kinetic art, op art and abstract painting. His sculptural canvases appear to be painted but are all created with light and glass. Lightpaintings are the intersection of painting, sculpture and technology, exploring color, light and space and are a harbinger of the future of painting.

“Stephen Knapp has over thirty years experience creating installation art and exploring the possibilities of light. His work can be found in museum, public, corporate and private collections.

Wow!  Isn’t this architectural glass light painting simply amazing?  These pictures are on Stephen Knapp’s website: http://www.stephenknapp.com.

After looking at Stephen’s website and watching a couple of videos that you can access from his website, I still have a hard time figuring out how he does it!!

When I saw Stephen’s amazing glass art work, I thought I would share it with you.

The following glass art lightpainting was a commission he did for a private home!  Wouldn’t you like to have this in your home?  I sure would!!

Glass Art Private Collection

The following picture is a close-up of one of Stephen’s lightpaintings.  He cuts glass into different sizes and uses different colors.  He usually has one halogen light that shines on the glass and then the colors are reflected in different ways, depending on the shape of the glass.  This description is very basic, but that is all I really understand about it.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these lightpaintings by Stephen Knapp!

Black and Clear Glass Earrings with Teal Dichroic Glass

Glass Earrings

I wanted to play around with clear, black, and teal dichroic glass in these glass earrings.  I made two circles of clear glass and fused some small black pieces to the back of the glass earrings.  Then I put a couple of pieces of teal dichroic on the top of the glass earrings.

It is really hard to work with such small earrings and also to get them to look somewhat alike 🙂

The dichroic glass is very subtle, but adds a unique design element.  These glass earrings could be worn with almost any outfit.

Dichroic Glass Pendant

Dichroic Glass Pendant

Isn’t this glass pendant gorgeous?  I used a translucent white glass on the bottom, then I added a dichroic layer on clear glass.  The black lines and circle were added on the very top and then I did a full fuse.

I am speechless.  I don’t know what else to say about this glass pendant.  It might have something to do with my bedtime, which is right now.  My brain just doesn’t function very well at night.  I will try to post earlier in the day 🙂

Large Glass Spoon Rest

Large Glass Spoon Rest

I have been having fun making these glass spoon rests.  The swirl design was a customer’s idea and it works really well with this glass  spoon rest.

I have made several of these in different colors — red, black, and amber, which I have previously posted.  I just made a dark blue translucent with white spots.  I haven’t taken a picture of it yet, but when I do, I will post a picture of it.

I am in the middle of another one that is black and I am going to put white spots on it.  I’m also in the middle of making a red one with small white squares on top of black squares for the design.

Round Glass Pendant with Dichroic Glass and Black Stringers

Round Glass Pendant

This Glass Pendant is simple and elegant.  You can wear it with anything.  The dichroic layer picks up on colors behind it and the dichroic changes colors.  It is really fascinating to see this change in color in person.

I used a small circle cutter to cut the glass for this glass pendant.  The dichroic glass is DichroMagic on a clear  piece of glass and I also cut a circle of clear glass to go under the dichroic glass.  I added the black stringers and then did a full fuse.  The pendant looks much better in person.  It is really hard to take pictures of dichroic on a clear background.

This Glass Snowman Will Not Melt!

Snowman Glass Sun Catcher

Well, I guess that is technically incorrect.  If I put Mr. Snowman back in the kiln and turned the temperature on really high, then he would become a pool of glass 🙂

This glass snowman sun catcher could hang in your window all year long and never melt — that is what I really meant.

I made four glass snowman sun catchers.  They are not all exactly the same, but are similar.  They all have different color scarves and their facial expressions are different depending on the time of day they were fired in the kiln (well, the last part isn’t really true 🙂 ).  Some have more snow than others.  They are a lot of fun to make, since I love snowpeople!

Black Glass Pendant with Various Dichroic Glass

mixture-of-dichroic

Happy New Year!!  This is my first posting of 2009.  It took seven days to do it, but better late than never.  I am going to try to make more postings in 2009!  I’d like to write more tutorials and articles.

My website provider has come up with a new sitebuilder, so I have been working on transferring information from my old site builder to the new one.  I think it is going to take awhile, but I plan on doing a little at a time.  The new sitebuilder is supposed to be much easier to use.  I hope so!!

I had fun creating this glass pendant.  I wanted to make something a little different than the other glass pendants I usually make.  I like how this one turned out.  The silver pieces go well with the piece of dichroic glass called small boxes.  I am going to do more experimenting when I make more glass pendants.
